Let's astound ourselves

If we all did the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves."
- Thomas Edison

Welcome Putney Alum!

Hello any and all Putney alumni who make it here. Please, please post a comment and let the ideas, resources and information flow on how to do what we all must do: live in a sustainable way right where we are. If the kids in the public schools of our country could have just a taste of the earthy magic that is Putney, blessed be!

Field Trip to Medomak Valley HS Greenhouse

The field trip was fantastic. Neil Lash is a wealth of fascinating information about the heirloom plants he takes care of. Many of us are blessed with cuttings of a geranium from Thomas Jefferson's garden. That is so cool to me! I will be posting photos and the link to the film we made that day very soon. The excitement and energy generated by the trip continues to fuel our vision here. Mr. Smith is ready to start greenhouse construction.
We are on our way!!

Medomak Valley Field Trip Tomorrow!

Very exciting! Students from BRHS Environmental Science class and Health Advisory Board along with member of LAPP and channel 7 will all visit the lettuce growing greenhouse at Medomak Valley High School tomorrow where they will enjoy a very educational tour by Neil Lash (thank you Neil!).

So hoping that out of tomorrow's visit there will emerge a group of excited students eager to help bring to fruition the design of a greenhouse for BRHS and for the Boothbay Community Garden project.

Will post photos and observations from the trip tomorrow.

Opening minds, feeding mouths, building friendship...

Peninsula Garden Project (PGP): Mission Statement

"We the Boothbay Region High School senior Environmental Science Class, commit ourselves to educate, beautify, and unify the peninsula by building and maintaining a greenhouse that will be connected to a community garden dedicated to providing food and friendship."

(this mission statement was written by this years Environmental Science class in their excitement to be part of a beautiful project for their school and community in the fall of '09. Lapp has been created to include all of those in the community who want to be part of this and to spearhead the many facets of the project, but I wanted to show how dedicated this class feels about seeing this project to it's fruition).
